Last month I went to my first anime and manga convention with my brother. It was also my first time in cosplay! Yeeha! What better way to kick off our blog than a post about SMASH! 2013 held at Darling Harbour Convention Centre on Saturday 10th August 2013.

Ok, so for my first cosplay I went as Mio from K-On! I took so long working out who I would cosplay that I didn't leave much time to get her costume together. But I did manage to make the mini top hat and sew the giant bow sash for the back of the dress. I was disappointed that I only saw one other K-On! cosplayer, but pleasantly surprised that I was asked to pose for a few photos ^_^
Made some new friends that day too! This is Sharlene (dressed as Misa from Death Note) and Linny (dressed as Kikyo from InuYasha).
As far as conventions go, I gotta say that waiting in line to get in totally sucked. Especially since we bought our tickets online weeks before the convention. It was faster to buy tickets at the door. I literally missed a few panels that I really wanted to see because we were waiting in line. Next year, SMASH! is supposed to be at Rosehill Gardens - We'll see how they handle it then.
Was so impressed by this Boa cosplay from One Piece - She came from interstate with that snake!
More cool cosplayers!
Ramon checkin' out the action outside
It was so bright outside (and busy)! Lots of cosplayers and photographers gathered around here to take pics. Saw some really amazing costumes - I was so busy gaping and admiring to take photos. Ramon took heaps so he can cover the rest in his SMASH! 2013 post.
Sorry for the blurry shot, but this dude's tail had multi-coloured LEDs that changed colour. The pic doesn't do it justice, it was so cool. It was hard to get a photo of this 'cause the hall was so crowded and people kept walking in front of me!
Linny managed to find another InuYasha cosplayer!
In the afternoon, the cosplay competition provided heaps of entertainment - see Ramon's post for pics. After seeing so many epic costumes it left me feeling really inspired and motivated to get cracking on the next costume. I've already started making a list! It was such a blast to be surrounded by so many lovers of cosplay. Regardless of whether the costume was store bought or hand made, being in a costume at a convention really makes it more enjoyable. I can't wait for the next convention!
